The Dangers of Counterfeit Parts

The Federal Trade Commission says that counterfeit parts cost the automotive industry about $12 billion a year, but that isn’t the biggest danger these components present. Counterfeit (“gray market”) parts do not undergo proper testing—making braking systems, airbags, and seatbelts potentially deadly for drivers.
